REPAIR OR REPLACE?
A clear plan for your faucet.
The brand is a starting point, not a diagnosis. I look at the model, the problem, access, and the cost and availability of parts before recommending a repair or replacement.
Start with the likely repair.
Delta · Moen · Glacier Bay · Pfister · American Standard
Repair guidance: about $250–$450
I identify the faucet and the source of the trouble, then check whether the needed cartridge or other repair part can be matched. If it can, I compare the total repair cost with a suitable replacement.
If the faucet is worn, damaged, or the repair approaches the cost of replacement, I explain both options before work begins.
Confirm the part before committing.
Some Kohler · Grohe · Hansgrohe models
Single-part repair guidance: about $450–$650. Multi-part work is quoted after inspection.
Some models need a specific cartridge or specialty part. When the model or part cannot be confirmed from the information on hand, I may need to shut off the water, remove the part, and have a supplier match it. Part availability and a possible return visit affect the quote.
Once the part and total cost are known, I lay out repair versus replacement so you can choose the route that makes sense.
A premium brand does not automatically mean an expensive cartridge. For example, Hansgrohe lists its 92730000 cartridge at $106, and GROHE lists its 46374000 cartridge at $104.25. These are manufacturer examples checked in September 2026, not a quote for your faucet. Labor, access, sourcing, additional parts, and a possible return visit affect the total.
When the issue is in a complex shower valve
Want to see the parts before we discuss the repair? View a real GROHE thermostatic shower-valve body and its thermostatic cartridge. These are examples, not an identification of the parts in your shower.
This is different from a sink faucet. Depending on the shower system, the cartridge, inlet filters or screens, check valves, and isolation or shutoff units may be separate serviceable parts. I identify the exact model and inspect the affected components. If more than one is worn or blocked, I may recommend replacing the compatible parts together while the system is being serviced.
That fuller repair can cost more than changing one cartridge. It is not automatic: I explain which parts actually need work, whether they are available, and how the total compares with replacement before proceeding.
Example: Hansgrohe’s Croma shower-system parts list shows these components as separate items. Your system may differ.Send a photo of the faucet, any visible model information, and a short description of the problem. These are rough repair totals before tax, not fixed prices. Part cost, availability, sourcing, access, and the faucet’s condition can change the quote. The plan and price are confirmed before work begins.
